DIY Christmas Tree Ornaments Using Seashells, Sea Urchins and Starfish

Dust off that box of shells you've collected over the years during your fabulous beach vacations and make beautiful seashell ornaments for your Christmas tree.  Perfect for stocking stuffers, gifts for coworkers, neighbors and friends. All you need is a glue gun or craft glue, ribbon, Krylon clear polyurethane and colored string for hanging the ornaments.  If you prefer more decorative shell ornaments, buy spray glitter, gold or silver spray paint and some embellishments such as tiny fabric flowers or tiny clear acrylic rhinestones.  If you don't have all the shells you need, don't worry, we have a huge selection of bulk seashells for crafts sold by the kilo or gallon.

I love using center cut seashells, egg shell cowries, white starfish, muffin shells, spiral cut turritella, spindle shells, scallops and clam shells.  You can simply add a bow and string for a simple shell ornament or for a more decorative ornament, embellish them with spray paint, spray glitter, some clear rhinestones or tiny fabric flowers.

If you have the time and are artistic, you can make a santa starfish using 3 inches white knobby starfish.  Spray the starfish red, then paint on Santa's face, boots, gloves and belt.  Add a gold string for hanging.  (A sample is shown in the photo at the top of the page)

Seashell angels are my favorite. You will need a tiny wood doll head or tiny seashell to use as a face, center cut cerithium shells, and a capiz shell or you can use lima lima shells for the body, small scallop shells for the wings and a tiny shell for the face.  Lay out the shells on top of the capiz to make sure you have chosen the correct size shells.  Once you are satisfied with the look, start gluing them to the capiz.  Spray the ornament with glitter, attach the face, a bow and the string for hanging.  (Samples are shown in the photos at the top of the page.)

To make a sea urchin snowman, use small sea urchins.  Just glue 3 urchins on top of each other, spray paint the snowman white and add some felt buttons, a red nose and mouth and wiggly eyes and hat.   The felt and wiggly eyes and tiny hats can be purchased at any local craft store.

If you don't have the time to make beach Christmas ornaments, we have a large selection of seashell ornaments  to choose from.  Some are packed 5 pieces and others are packed 10.
