Product Details
Bulk Gold-ringer Cowries, Cyprae annulus, also called ring top cowries, measure between approximately 1/2 inch and 1 inch in size. These are used in making shell mirrors, shell ornaments, shell wreaths, shell characters and in shell baskets. These pretty tan and cream colored with a gold ring pretty shells are used in numerous shell craft projects.
Our cowrie shells vary greatly in size and coloring from shipment to shipment.  Look at the sample photos shown to see the variation in coloring and size.  Some are larger cream colored while others are smaller greenish in color.  All have the gold ring..

Cowries are among the most popular of all seashells, numbering around 200 living species. The earliest use of cowries as currency appears to have been during the Bronze Age in Chine, about 2000 B.C. The principal cowrie used as money was the very common Money Cowrie. Later the Ringed Cowrie also came into use. These cowries are ideal for use as money because they are small, easily portable, durable and hard to conterfeit.

Our shells are commercial grade. All seashells sold in bulk, by the gallon and by the kilo will contain some unusable shells and there will be a little gravel in the bags!
