Large South African Spotted Genet (Genetta tigrina) full mount on oval wood base measuring approximately 20 inches long by 17-1/2 inches tall by 8 inches wide including wood base. The base measures approximately 15-3/4 x 7.  This South African Spotted Genet was professionally mounted by a South African taxidermist. It is a Real spotted genet - Not a Replica.   It was cleared for legal entry into the U.S by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Customs. 

Cape genets, or large-spotted genets, are native to southern Africa.  Cape genets prefer habitats with high vegetation cover and permanent water sources.  Genets in general are somewhat cat-like in appearance and have a light coat with dark spots, a dorsal stripe on the body, and dark rings on the tail.  They range in size from an 18 to 23 inch long head and body and a 15 to 18 inch long tail.  Genets are predominantly solitary, except white mating or when females rear young.  Females appear to be territorial, and they may defend territories, as adults fight fiercely in captivity.  During the day, they hide in dark places.  Genets are omnivorous, due to their diverse, generalist diet that changes seasonally.
