Common North American Snapping Turtle Skull (Chelydra serpentina) measuring approximately 3 inches long, and 2 inches wide. - Review all photos. Turtle skulls can be used in Native American crafts. The snapping turtle is a cold-blooded fresh water animal and will usually be found during the day sitting in the sun on a rock, log, or any stumps that are near the water.  Common snappers are noted for their belligerent disposition when out of the water, they have powerful beak-like jaws and a highly mobile head and neck. In some areas they are heavily hunted for their meat, a popular ingredient in turtle soup.
